Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony

Every year the Leon County School Volunteer Program receives nominations from each school for volunteer awards in several categories including youth, adult, mentor, and senior. This year Buck Lake Elementary nominated me for the youth volunteer award because of various things I do around campus. So, I recently went to a ceremony where all the volunteers nominated went.

There were more than 500 people there and 300 nominees. First Jackie Pons, the superintendent, spoke. After that, the youth nominees came up to be rewarded for their volunteer hours and were given their trophy. I walked quickly up there and got in line. When they called me, I marched up to the stage and shook hands with Jackie Pons and got a photo taken with myself holding my trophy next to him.

Later, after the other nominees from my school got rewarded, everyone from Buck Lake went over to a wall they made just for pictures. We got some pictures then went back to our seats and listened to the rest of the program.

I was really proud for my achievement and so was my family, so maybe you, too, should get involved in your schools and community to get elected for this event.
