That's recyclable! It's never too late to help the environment

If there's one thing in the world that's more important than recycling, it's . . . it's . . . well, I'm not sure what it is.

That's because recycling is very important if we don't want to live in an over-polluted world.

I always recycle as much as I can because if you throw out trash, it will just go to big landfills and give off gases that harm the environment.

By recycling, we can reuse certain materials so that they don't go to waste.

Sometimes at school one of my classmates throws some paper in the trash, so I get a used piece of paper to take the trashed paper out of the trash can and put it in the recycling bin.

Otherwise, if I see someone putting paper in the trash, I yell, "NOOOOO!!! THAT'S RECYCLABLE!"

OK, I might be exaggerating a little, but it doesn't matter — you get the idea.

If I can't (or don't want to) recycle something (yet), I usually try to reuse it.

For instance, if I print something on one side of the printer and then read what I printed, I then turn it over and put it back in the printer so we can use the back side of the paper.

Another example of reusing can be as simple as using non-disposable plates and silverware.

Disposable things have to be thrown out in the trash because they: 1. Are made out of the wrong materials to be recycled; and 2. They will have food on them afterwards.

My school, Buck Lake Elementary, has a new recycling program where you can recycle soda cans, milk jugs, plastic bottles, etc. at the school.

That will help get kids to start recycling more because now they also are selling Aquafina water bottles. So, anyway, remember the three Rs: RECYCLE, REUSE and REDUCE.
