Science Expo at the Challenger Center
Recently, I went with my dad to the Challenger Center for a science exposition. Most schools in the Leon County Schools system had some classes do a science project. A select group of students from each school got to display their backboard that showed everything about their experiment at the Challenger Learning Center. I was one of the students from Buck Lake who participated in this event.
Every project was supposed to follow the scientific method. Each student had to have a question that could be answered using an experiment or test, a hypothesis telling what they think the results would be, research about the topic, a procedure they would follow, and a conclusion. Everyone had to put this and more on their backboard display.
Students and parents were allowed to walk around and look at other people's display boards. I liked seeing all the ideas that kids had come up with. A couple of times, people got different results if they were doing the same science experiment! For instance, I saw two different people who were trying to find out if a plant would grow better in sunlight or shade. One person's shade plant grew taller than the one exposed to sunlight, and the other person got the opposite result!
There were a couple media crews there, and I was interviewed by one of them. I don't know how many other people were interviewed, but I was the only one from that station that they showed on TV! (Amazing, huh?)
I did learn some things that I didn't already know from this science expo and that was ONE of the reasons why I enjoyed going there. I've even realized that this event actually helped me like science better!
