Hot weather calls for yummy cold desserts
To me, summer doesn't just mean warm weather and no school, it also means that there is a great opportunity to have yummy sweets that we don't normally get to have in the winter. I'm talking about things like key lime pie, ice cream, and other cold foods.
There are some things like ice cream which some people have year-round, but they always taste better in warm weather. I guess it's just that cold sensation that feels so good when you put it in your mouth in a warm atmosphere.
My favorite treat of this type is cold Cheerios bars. They contain Cheerios, marshmallows, M&Ms, and a few other things all mixed in (or at least in the recipe I use). After a few hours of resting in the fridge, they taste really good, even for people (like me) who don't really like plain Cheerios. Below is a recipe for them. They are really fun and easy to make and they are an excellent treat.
Cheerios Bars
Ingredients
- 3 Tbsps. butter or margarine (do not use spread or tub products)
- 1 bag (10 1/2 ounces) of miniature marshmallows (6 cups)
- 5 cups of Cheerios cereal
- 1 cup of M&Ms
Directions
- Butter or grease a rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches.
- Microwave the butter and marshmallows in a large microwavable bowl uncovered on High for about 2 minutes, stirring after every minute, until smooth.
- Immediately stir in cereal and M&Ms until coated. Press in pan; cool.
- Store in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. Then you can cut them into about 24 bars and enjoy.
