Fourth-graders take Florida Writes test

On Tuesday, February 6 and Wednesday the 7th, all of the fourth graders did the Florida Writes test. Florida Writes is only for fourth graders, and in fifth grade students take a science subject instead of writing. It is one of the parts of FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test), a test all third through fifth graders have to take in order to go to the next grade.

On Tuesday, every fourth grader had to do the first session, where they had to write an expository writing piece to show what writing skills they had learned such as onomatopoeia, strong verbs, grabbers, takeaway endings, transitions, etc.

The next day, on Wednesday, the fourth grade students had to read a number of plans for writing pieces, text for posters, or something else with the topic of ‘writing’ and answer a number of questions about it.

While the fourth graders were doing Florida Writes, other grades had to take the Writes Upon Request Test, another writing test for grades 1+.

The rest of the FCAT for fourth grade and other grades will continue later on in spring.
