Excitement and jitters about starting middle school next fall
The school year is over! For me, May 30 was not just the last day of school, but it was the last day of elementary school. I can't believe fifth grade is already over! I am excited that summer is here but nervous that I'm going to middle school next year.
At Buck Lake Elementary, they always do a field day just for the fifth-graders with snow cones, popcorn, water slides, relay races and more. This year it was supposed to happen on the second-to-last Friday, but because of the weather, it was postponed to the next Tuesday. It was pretty hot — just the kind of weather for a field day with water and snow cones!
The fifth-graders also went to Sea World in Orlando for our annual fifth-grade field trip. We could walk around the whole park for a day.
On the last day of school, the whole fifth grade filed into the cafeteria for the Fifth Grade Completion Ceremony.
Every year, Leon County Schools does a speech contest, and so the winner from our school, Madeline Horgan, spoke. I remember her talking about the Sea World trip and saying something about how funny it was to see our teachers at 4:30 in the morning looking really tired!
So, I have to say that I will probably never forget these six years of my life.
