Challenging Challenger Center

In some of the articles I've done for this newspaper before, I mentioned going to the Challenger Center. For this article, I'm talking about another trip to the Challenger Center, but with a summer camp.

My church, First Presbyterian, has a summer camp every year. We go on a lot of field trips, and one field trip was for the older kids (fifth grade and up) and we went to the Challenger Center to do a space-mission simulation. I had never done it before then, but a lot of other kids had done it, which made it more fun for me.

We went up into a "spaceship" and went to different stations. Everyone had a job to do. My job was to help assemble a probe that was going to be launched into space. Other jobs included Life Support (these people couldn't go wrong on what they were doing or we'd all "die"), Communications (this person talks over the intercom), and more. Of course, none of this was real. It was just a simulation.

At some times, an alarm would sound, and we had to get down low or have everyone come into the room I was working in. It was really fun, and I look forward to doing it again.
